Day 1: Hanoi - Mai Chau (L/D)

After breakfast, ignite your engines and head toward Mai Châu. We’ll sweep across the lush Đà River delta, weaving through a patchwork of vibrant green fields and rolling hills before stopping for a local feast.

The afternoon gets intimate as we navigate narrow riverside tracks to visit a traditional Mường village. We’ll then conquer the heights of Thung Khe Pass for a breathtaking panoramic view over the emerald Mai Châu valley. By late afternoon, we’ll settle into an authentic Thai stilt house to enjoy a traditional dinner and the quiet magic of rural life.

Day 2: Mai Chau - Phu Yen (L/D)

After breakfast, we set our sights on Phù Yên, a hidden gem cradled by jungle-clad peaks and terraced valleys. We’ll tackle the historic Hũa Tạt, a legendary French-built mountain road known for its steep, pulse-racing pass and dramatic curves.

Following a local lunch, we’ll cruise the scenic National Road 43 through the heartland of Thai communities. A highlight of the day is crossing the vast Đà River reservoir via the Vạn Yên ferry, before winding our way into the broad, golden rice valleys of Phù Yên. Today, we traverse the surreal, limestone landscape of the Đồng Văn Karst Plateau, a UNESCO Global Geopark that feels like another planet. Our 4×4 expedition winds through the Sa Phin Valley to the Vương Family Mansion, an architectural marvel of stone and wood once known as the “Hmong Royal Palace.”

After exploring the ancient, clay-brick alleys of Đồng Văn’s Old Quarter, we’ll push onward to the remote valley of Mèo Vạc. Home to the Dao, Tày, and Hmong communities, this quiet enclave offers a pure glimpse into highland life. We’ll share a rustic local dinner and spend the night in the warmth of a mountain homestay.

Today’s drive is arguably the most beautiful of the entire expedition. We’ll arrive by late afternoon in the village of Pác Ngòi, tucked right inside the park. Start your morning with a tranquil boat expedition across Ba Bể Lake. We’ll glide past towering karst peaks and ancient lakeside forests, stopping to swim in the cool, emerald waters. The highlight is a cruise up the Năng River into the jaws of Puông Cave, a massive limestone grotto where giant stalactites hang over a thundering colony of thousands of bats.

After a local lunch, we’ll leave the park and head northeast on a scenic 3-hour drive to Cao Bằng. This province is the crown jewel of the northeast, famous for its jagged landscapes, hidden grottoes, and world-class waterfalls. We’ll arrive by evening to check into our hotel and enjoy a dinner of local Cao Bằng specialties.

We’ll visit the legendary Phúc Sen blacksmith village, where for over 1,000 years, artisans have used ancestral techniques to forge Vietnam’s most famous steel blades, each hammer strike echoing through the valley.

After a local lunch, we’ll trace the historic Colonial Road 4 (RC4), passing through Đồng Khê and Thất Khê. These sites were the stage for pivotal battles that shaped the nation’s history. Day 10: Lang Son - Loc Binh - Tien Yen - Ha Long Bay (B/L/D)

Start your morning deep in the heart of the mountains at Tam Thanh Cave. More than just a cavern, this vast limestone grotto houses the mystical Tam Thanh Pagoda, where ancient Buddhist altars blend seamlessly with shimmering stalactites. Afterward, we’ll ascend the stone steps of Tô Thị Mountain. At the summit, you’ll encounter the famous “Vọng Phu” rock, a natural silhouette of a woman holding her child, immortalized in legend as a symbol of eternal loyalty. From here, the entire city of Lạng Sơn unfolds in a 360-degree panoramic view.

The drive then shifts gears, trading rugged peaks for coastal salt air. We’ll navigate the winding mountain passes and scenic corridors toward the Gulf of Tonkin. As the sun begins to set, we’ll roll into Hạ Long City, where the iconic karst pillars of the bay begin to peek through the horizon. Enjoy a celebratory dinner in this world-famous coastal city as we prepare for the final leg of our journey.

Day 11: Halong Bay (B/L/D

Enjoy a free morning at Hạ Long’s beach or markets before boarding the Pelican Cruise at noon. As you feast on a buffet lunch, the ship glides past iconic landmarks like Fighting Cocks Islet and Incense Burner.

The afternoon is yours to explore: visit a floating pearl farm by kayak or climb to the summit of Ti Top Island for the bay’s most famous 360-degree panorama. As the sun sets, master the art of the Vietnamese spring roll in a sundeck cooking class, followed by a BBQ dinner and a night of squid fishing under the stars.

Day 12: Halong Bay - Hanoi (B/L)

Start your final morning with the serene grace of Tai Chi on the sundeck as the sun breaks over the karst horizon. After breakfast, we’ll head ashore to explore the magnificent Sửng Sốt (Surprise) Cave, a vast underground cathedral of shimmering stalactites and soaring limestone chambers.

By noon, we’ll cruise back to the harbor to bid farewell to the crew. The final leg of our 12-day 4WD expedition takes us through the heart of the Red River Delta, passing ancient rice paddies and traditional villages. We’ll roll back into the vibrant pulse of Hanoi around 17:00, marking the epic conclusion of our Northern Vietnam adventure.
