Meet your driver at Noi Bai Airport and transfer to the hotel in Hanoi. Depending on the arrival time, enjoy a first walk through the Old Quarter or rest before the expedition briefing. In the evening, meet the guide and driving team to review the route, convoy rules, radio communication and safety procedures. The team completes a final inspection of the vehicles and recovery equipment.

Leave Hanoi and gradually exchange busy roads for limestone valleys, rice fields and small countryside lanes. Enter Pu Luong Nature Reserve, home to Thai villages built along the hillsides. Stop for photographs of the terraces and traditional stilt houses, then take a short village walk to observe local farming life. Light backroads and rural tracks provide an easy introduction to the expedition.

Continue south through mountain passes, river valleys and farming villages rarely visited by international travellers. The route approaches the forested landscapes of Pu Mat National Park, close to the Lao border. Stop in local communities to see traditional houses and everyday agricultural life before reaching Con Cuong. Several rural road sections allow the convoy to leave the main highway and travel through a quieter part of western Nghe An.

Begin with selected dirt and forest tracks around Con Cuong, where rain can quickly turn an ordinary road into a muddy 4WD section. The guide checks each route and changes direction if a trail becomes too narrow or blocked. Continue south through remote valleys before joining the historic Ho Chi Minh Trail corridor. Arrive in Phong Nha among dramatic limestone cliffs, rivers and rural villages.

Spend the morning exploring one of Phong Nha‘s accessible cave systems by boat or on foot, depending on the selected program. Limestone formations, underground chambers and the Son River reveal the geology of this UNESCO-listed region. In the afternoon, follow quiet countryside roads between karst peaks, farms and villages. The lighter schedule also gives the driving team time to inspect the vehicles before the Truong Son section.

Follow long forested sections of the western Ho Chi Minh Trail through the Truong Son Mountains. The road passes remote valleys and areas once used as vital supply corridors during the war. Stop at viewpoints and small roadside communities before reaching Khe Sanh, surrounded by coffee plantations. Visit Ta Con Airfield to see the museum, aircraft and military remains connected to the 1968 Battle of Khe Sanh.

Leave Khe Sanh on mountain and border roads through the former combat zones of western Quang Tri and A Luoi. The route follows forested valleys close to Laos and passes communities of the Pa Co and Ta Oi ethnic groups. Stop at selected viewpoints and local villages before descending toward Hue.

Arrive in the former imperial capital, where the Perfume River and royal architecture create a striking change from the remote mountains.

Begin with a guided visit to Hue‘s Imperial Citadel, the former political centre of the Nguyen Dynasty. Continue south past the coastal lagoons and stop at Lang Co Beach before climbing the Hai Van Pass. Its bends offer wide views over the mountains, sea and Da Nang coastline. Descend toward Hoi An and finish the day with a walk through the lantern-lit Ancient Town.

Leave the coast and turn inland toward the Central Highlands. The road climbs through mountain passes, forest corridors and valleys once connected to the Ho Chi Minh Trail. Pause at viewpoints and roadside villages to see how the landscape changes with altitude. On arrival in Kon Tum, visit the distinctive wooden church or a nearby Bahnar communal house when time allows.

Drive across the agricultural heart of the Central Highlands, where volcanic red soil supports coffee, rubber, pepper and cashew plantations. Stops with local farmers introduce the cultivation and processing of coffee, while reservoirs and small highland settlements provide natural breaks before reaching Buon Ma Thuot.

Travel through coffee country to Lak Lake, one of the largest natural freshwater lakes in the Central Highlands. Visit a lakeside M’nong village and learn about traditional longhouses and local life. Continue on rural highland roads before climbing toward Da Lat. Pine forests, flower farms and cooler air announce the arrival in Vietnam’s best-known mountain resort.

Leave Nha Trang and follow scenic coastal roads toward Ninh Thuan, one of Vietnam’s driest and most distinctive regions. Visit a Cham tower complex to learn about the history and culture of the Cham people, then continue through vineyards, salt fields and traditional fishing communities. Along the way, observe colourful basket boats and the daily work around the local harbours. Firm coastal tracks and selected sand sections may be included when conditions are safe. Continue south to Mui Ne and visit the red or white sand dunes near the end of the day.
